My life changed forever the night my husband died.

I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t want to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him.

But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope.

My life changed forever the night my brother died.

I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that. When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I'm willing to sacrifice it all.

Excerpt

“She’s been missing him a lot lately.”

Julia’s voice is barely a whisper and my chest constricts. Our conversations don’t normally make it to discussing Gage unless we’re already arguing. The fact that she just brought it up shocks me and I’m not comfortable with it. I don’t know how to take it. I feel my jaw pulse with frustration and scramble to change the subject again. “Why is it so chilly in here?”

Her smile disappears and she tugs her sweatshirt nervously. “I didn’t know it was.”

“How can you possibly not know?” I start to the thermostat across the room when she clears her throat.

“The heater isn’t working right. I asked Lane to come by and look at it earlier this week.”

“And he hasn’t been here yet?” I shoot her a look and she shakes her head. “He’ll be here tonight.” I dig my cell outta my pocket.

“Crew, don’t. Please. The last time you called my landlord he was a complete jerk to me for a couple of months. I just got on good terms with him again.”

I scroll through my contacts list, looking for his name.

“Crew ...” I know her doe-eyes are pleading with me. I also know if I look up at her, I’ll be somewhat inclined to give in. So I don’t.

Stone Walls by A.M. Madden | REVIEW

Title: Stone Walls
Author: A.M. Madden
Review By: Candice
Stars: 4

It's really quite rare these days to find a book that has it all: scorching chemistry, likeable MC's, and a decent plot.  And when I say decent plot, I';m talking about a well thought out, well executed story that has drama, suspense,  romance, sex. . .The works.  A story that as a whole has substance.  Stone Walls is one of those books.

The novel, based around the MC's Ben and Ella, not only focuses on their present day lives, but also their devastating pasts.  Pasts that have shaped who they are, and has caused them both to build 'Stone Walls' around their hearts.  They have both suffered immense loss and live with that hurt daily.

Ben, a tall, dark, handsome, NYC policeman, isn't looking for a relationship.  He lives for his job and is content with emotionless sex - no string attached.

Ella, while she has had 'relationships', she can';t bring herself to love.  She's closed off, and while independent, she lives in a world of hurt.

Enter their best friends who are in a serious relationship - Ben';s partner Rob, and Ella';s boss/bf Andrea.  They believe the two are a perfect match, soul mates.  These two are fantastic background characters!

'I’ve done my job. I’ve given your fate the kick in its ass it needed. I’ve solved the case of your missing soul mate.”

“You’re hanging around cops too much,” I interrupt.

. . . She openly laughs at me. “Oh, my sweet friend. You think you’ll be able to derail fate? You silly, silly girl.”

Initially Ben and Ella fight the idea. . . and the blatant attraction between them, but the more time they spend together the harder it becomes for them to deny what they both want - each other.

'I learned two things about Ben while bonding over our Starbucks . First, when he isn’t an arrogant ass, he’s very charming. Second, when he isn’t charming, he’s an arrogant ass.'

Their lives intertwine, both past and present, setting the scene for a story that';s full of suspense, drama, and startling revelations.

Overall the book was great.  I've been in a book rut lately, and this is the first book in a long time that I've managed to finish.  It was intriguing enough to keep me guessing and keep me interested.

Admittedly there were things that fell short for me, but nothing substantial enough to affect the overall rating of the book.

It started off portraying both Ella and Ben as quite feisty, strong characters; He was a 'prick' she was a 'bitch';.   Over the course of the book, those traits dulled somewhat, and I found myself wanting those attitudes to return. They got quite sappy on me.

There are also quite a few long flashbacks scattered throughout.  I';m not a huge fan of flashbacks, but it seemed to work here.  However, due to the majority of the flashbacks being Ben';s, it did emphasize the fact that his story wasn't wrapped up as thoroughly as Ella's was.

Other than that, I really enjoyed their story.

Red Carpet Day Job by Tasha Cotter | Review

Title: Red Carpet Day Job
Author: Tasha Cotter
Rating: 3.5
Reviewer: Rohina

You know there are some books out there that are meant to be short, sweet and romantic. Well Red Carpet Day Job was exactly that! There is just the right amount of humorous moments that keeps this book lighthearted without getting too cheesy.

The first thing I'm going to comment upon is the cover... I LOVE IT!!! It's absolutely beautiful.

Scott, Sophie's ex provided a lot of comic instances with his chickens and eggs.

Sophie is introduced to Nick Jackson, Hollywood's biggest up and coming actor. When Nick asks Sophie to accompany her to the Teen Pick Awards she can't believe her luck. And despite Nick's reputation as a playboy with a long list of his conquests, Sophie cannot help liking him and vice-a-versa.

But then the real question comes up... Can the hot shot Hollywood star with a colorful background be faithful? Or will he get scared and run away?

Can Sophie a regular girl handle all the extras that come with dating a Hollywood star?

This book is packed with cute dialogues, a few steamy scenes, a heartthrob and like I said Scott and his chickens.

Since the book is short it didn't have much scope for character or plot development but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

For me personally, Sophie and Nick moved way to quickly. Now that necessarily is not a bad thing, but I would have loved to have their romance and chemistry build slow and steady until I would have gone out of my mind.

But I was definitely hooked from the first page and frankly finished it in a few hours.

This book is perfect if you are looking for a whirl-wind romance, a movie star with a few chickens here and there, then Red Carpet Day Job is for you.
